Who will bear the delivery costs if the COD parcels are returned or rejected?

Introduction

It's no secret that providing a COD payment option to your receivers is one of the top factors in increasing trust among your audience. However, the COD payment option also comes with its own challenges. Check out how to deal with situations when parcels are returned or rejected.

Scenario 1: Receiver is not home

Surely, receivers are not always at home all the time. They might be working, out for groceries and carrying out their own chores outside of their home. Often times, they can't always be there to receive the COD parcels promptly. In this situation, the receiver can simply request the courier for a re-attempt for next-day delivery. To assist the receiver further on this request, they may contact our dedicated support team to ensure smooth delivery the next day.

Scenario 2: Receiver is unreachable

There are also a few challenges when opting for COD. If the courier can't reach your receiver after three attempts, the parcel will be returned to the sender's address. In this situation, you, as the sender, will bear the cost of the shipping fee. To avoid being in this situation again, you may consider these steps:

  • Ensure that your receiver's contact details are correct.
  • Ensure that the details of your receiver's address are correct.
  • Ensure that your receiver understands the method for the COD payment option.
  • Ensure that your receiver is aware of the estimated delivery time for the COD parcel. You can also send them a Custom Tracking SMS, a Custom Tracking Email or a Tracking WhatsApp to help them realize the ETA.
